What should Kansas’ judicial selection process look like? Hear the case for reform and the arguments behind proposed changes to the current system.

Josh Ney has served as the Jefferson County Attorney for the past 10 years and has a private practice, having previously served as the Kansas Securities Commissioner. Josh currently serves as a bar-elected attorney member on the 2nd Judicial Nominating Commission covering Jefferson, Jackson, Pottawatomie, and Wabaunsee Counties. In 2020, Josh was selected by the local nominating commission as one of three finalists for a district court judge position. Josh has researched and testified on Kansas judicial selection for over 15 years, and he published a law journal article in 2009 in the Washburn Law Review entitled “Does the Kansas Supreme Court Selection Process Violate the One Person, One Vote Doctrine?”, a peer-reviewed article later cited in the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy. Josh is a 6th-generation Kansan, and his grandfather Dr. Bob Severance of Beloit, Kansas was the District Governor of Rotary District 5680 from 1977-1978.
