New Hope for Failing Hearts: How Ascension Via Christi’s Structural Heart Team is Helping Pioneer New Options for Patients Worldwide

Bassem Chehab, MD, an interventional cardiologist and with Cardiovascular Consultants of Kansas, and Brett Grizzell, MD, a cardiothoracic surgeon with Wichita Surgical Specialists, are two of the founding leaders of the Heart Valve Clinic and Structural Heart program at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis.

Since the clinic and program were launched nearly 10 years ago, they have offered new hope to nearly 2,800 patients with failing heart valves. These patients, too acutely ill to be good candidates for surgery, have had their aortic, mitral and tricuspid valves repaired or replaced through minimally invasive transcatheter procedures performed by the team in a specially designed hybrid operating room at St. Francis.

Additionally, the team continues to help pioneer new technology and therapies nationally and internationally through their participation in elite clinical trials.

You won’t want to miss hearing how the program,  having developed a reputation as a global leader, is putting Wichita on the map as a go-to location for heart care.
