Herbie Harris: Promoting Positive Change in our Prison System

After completing a seven-year federal prison sentence in Leavenworth, KS, Herbie graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary on a Saturday afternoon in November of 1997. The following Monday morning he entered full time Christian ministry by going to work for Prison Fellowship Ministries founded by Chuck Colson. He held the position of Starting Line Coordinator for Kansas and was then promoted to the position of Area Director of KS, NE, IA and MO.
In May of 2002 Herbie went to work for the Kansas Department of Corrections as a Chaplain at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility, overseeing the funding and building efforts of Kansas’ first Spiritual Life Center with others following at the El Dorado Correctional Facility, the Hutchinson Correctional Facility and now the Winfield Correctional Facility. Herbie transferred from Ellsworth to the El Dorado Correctional Facility where he currently serves. He also oversees the Oswego Correctional Facility in Southeast Kansas.
